A Palooza in Arizona!

This past weekend I had the pleasure of participating in a YA Palooza at Changing Hands Bookstore in Tempe, AZ. It was a terrific time. The Los Angeles crew decided that it was a great oppurtunity for a road trip.

So Carol Snow, Blake Nelson, Mark London Williams and I packed into a car and set off like a band of touring authors.

At the book store, it was packed. We mix and mingled and had pizza. Then we broke off into groups and wrote a twelve sentence story with the audience by mixing up two titles and coming up with a new one. Me & author JS Lewis decided to do an exquistie corpse game with our group. We got the titles Wizards and Witches and The Invention of Hugo Cabret. We came up with the title Hugo the Wizard and The Invention of Wizards.

Then we played games pitting our knowledge of YA against each other.

Team LA: Mark London Williams, Carol Snow, Me, Blake Nelson, Andrew Smith

Team Arizona

Top Row: James Owen, Aprillyne Pike, Janette Rallison, Angela Morrison, Tony Carillo

Bottom Row: JS Lewis, Tom Leveen, Janni Lee Simner

Team Arizona won by 1 point.

Afterwards some of the authors went out and had a great dinner. I got to spend a nice amount of time gushing over Janni Lee Simner book Bones of Faerie.

On the way home, we stopped at the General Patton Museum. Gotta love a Road Trip.

Thanks to all of you who came out! And thanks to Changing Hands.
